I’m back!

by rferre on Jan.04, 2012, under Daily Entries

It has been a while since I wrote my last post. I could give all kind of excuses like “I’m busy” or “The economy sucks” but reality is that this project is very close to my heart and I want to address it properly, as it should be. When I first had the idea of this site, I was hoping to build a database of places and business where we would be fully accepted without any kind of prejudice, places that would be ourselves without fear and the new generation would look for support. My plan is still the same, all I need to do is to move it forward. I think that the time is almost here. Thanks for reading.

Gay Pride in West Hollywood is always inspiring

by rferre on Jun.21, 2010, under Daily Entries

I remember the days when I was afraid of telling people that I was gay, afraid of bullying and prejudice. Today, when I see kids marching on the streets holding a gay flag with a big smile on their faces, celebrating who we are, I can’t help not to feel emotional. Below you will see what I am talking about.

West Hollywood is getting ready for PRIDE

by rferre on Jun.04, 2010, under Daily Entries

As I walk through the streets of West Hollywood, especially Santa Monica Boulevard, I can feel the energy and excitement growing: It’s Pride Time. The time where we celebrate the freedom of being who we are without fear, open hearted and proud. I am man that loves a man and I am a woman that loves a woman.

For many of us around this country, the freedom of being who we are is still a demanding act of courage but if we look in retrospect, we have made a lot of progress. From the Stonewall Riots on the 70’s to walking on the streets hand-to-hand with our loved ones. We still need to conquer our right of marry and build our families, that I’m sure, it will come soon.

So let’s prepare ourselves, get our best rainbow shirt and go out, proud of who we are.

And there was light…

by rferre on Jun.02, 2010, under Daily Entries

Well, there is always a beginning for everything. My journey with GLBT-Friendly started many years ago in Miami Beach, FL when I needed to get some car repair. I was completely frozen by the thought of going to a car shop, being gay, and being exploited by some crazy weirdo greasy dude. Than I emailed a couple of friends and asked them if there was any “GLBT-Friendly” car shop and they told me about these guys on Alton Avenue (Shorty & Fred’s Garage). So there I was and everything was great! So I though: Wouldn’t it be wonderful to go to a website and see where we are welcome to do business? The rest is history. I made an attempt of creating that site in 2001 but I wasn’t prepared for what happened: A crazy major success. Now that I have more knowledge of what I want to accomplish, I’ll go for that again. So, be ready my GLBT-Friendly friends, we are about to rock!
